For weeks my Recreation and Leisure
class has been talking about some way for us to get involved in the Southern
community, and we have finally found the answer. Southern partners with the
City of New Haven in an event called Friends of Rudolph, where they bring 1000
kids to campus to participate in games and arts and crafts, and at the end of
the day they go to the Lyman Center where they pick a toy. My class decided
that we were going to have a toy drive, with boxes in the classroom and the
Recreation Department, and the toys will then be given to the kids. We were originally
going to hold a Toys For Tots drive, but this seemed like the better option
because we can now volunteer to work with the kids before the receive their
toys, and it is a great way to give back to the community.
